The Diplomat will avoid fights at all cost. They're not opposed to confrontations, just violence. In fact, they can often qualm an angry party and avoid violence. They are also good at convincing others to do things they normally wouldn't do. This is even true for lowering the cost of various goods via the Haggling skill. Because of their reputation, Diplomats will often be assigned missions to help make peace between two third parties for a handsome reward!
