Diplomacy affects how computer controlled lifeforms react to the player, whether the individual or the party. It can even sometimes repair poor/bad reputation for the party! The higher the skill level, the more drastic the results. Sometimes it allows lifeforms of completely different cultures to be able to speak and have negotations.
