Scientists live to analyze, theorize, and experiment. They can be great problem solvers when faced with a situation where brute force is not the answer. They are similar to engineers when it comes to problem solving, except they sometimes have a physics or chemistry solution instead of just a mechanical one. They will sometimes invent, or sometimes improve. If given the right resources, they may even use electricity as a solution.
Because of their strong analysis skills, they can sometimes diagnose and find solutions for circulatory and respiratory issues. This doesn't mean cure (that's the job of other vocations), but to protect. They may invent powders or potions that increase resistance to various harmful effects. They are also fond of analyzing chemical compositions to determine what they are (i.e. a slime monster right in front of you).
Ok, so they don't always avoid brute force... They have been known to create toxic potions at times!
